just realized a possible etymology for Clobbopus' Japanese name, タタッコ Tatakko.

it's a pun on 駄々っ子 dadakko (spoiled child) - since it often acts childish. its category in Japanese is even だだっこポケモン Dadakko Pokemon (Spoiled Pokemon).

god i love Clobbopus so much.

Considering Pokemon's love to reference Ultraman, I think it's safe to say Takkong inspired Golem.

Referenced perhaps a little further by the fact Takkong consumes oil to breathe fire, and Golem can learn fire moves
