Gene Deitch will always be the guy who did those weird-looking Tom and Jerry and Popeye shorts. He was an Oscar-winning master of modernist Atomic Age cartoons at UPA and Terrytoons that many animators are inspired by. He'll be missed by tons of animation fans.
