Im westen haben wir folgende Lesehierarchie: Zuerst horizontal, dann vertikal. In Japan liest man aber erst vertikal. Was man selbst als Macher präferiert ist egal. Hauptsache man findet Tricks das klar dem Leser zu vermitteln. So haben wir das damals mit Lettering gelöst:

additional revelations from this post:

the artist's name is Kojichan/Kojichao and she did a lot of sonic adventure-style artwork in the early-mid 2000s. she did similar line/coloring work for a concept sketch of tikal. these sketches were also used for sonic X profile art

Belle & Tikal
Belle tries to take up Chao-raising as a distraction. She’s unsuccessful, so Sonic suggests Belle visit Tikal. The gals bond over Chao & their bad “dads” until Chaos arrives, detecting Belle as a threatening Eggman robot! Thunder/rain/lightning follow.
