Wuff. Brutal. Don't watch if that's not your speed. But given that we've seen a couple of recent ttrpgs about economic anxiety (Red Markets, #iHunt) this movie provides another touchstone with a killer driven by history and financial distress.
This week's episode of KnockBack is dedicated to the 1993 anime Ninja Scroll.
Ninja Scroll is a major cultural touchstone. Indeed, its structure is outright video game-ish.

I have the “difficult” task of watching movies all day as research for some upcoming Liminal Horror releases.

I would add The Nightmare Before Christmas as it is now technically a Disney movie, but I still don't see it as a "Disney" movie (it was originally released under Touchstone as Disney thought it was "too dark and scary")

This is from 2014 but it still holds up as a major touchstone for what I am about.
Our touchstones include Red Jack from Friends at the Table, Discworld's Moist von Lipwig and Nanny Ogg, Radar O'Reilly from [MASH], and Sayaka Kanamori from Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. Characters who are socially-savvy and pragmatic problem solvers, though in different ways.
