1. Sketch - focus on creating interesting shapes, character design, and composition
2. Underpainting - lay in base tones and temperature spots
3. Texture - lay in textures, wrapping around forms
4. Lighting and FX - choose light source, make it pop!

Reworked the still life under I did at the Dojo. love the fresh, loose, abstract sensibility of the underpainting but took it just that much further. Might go back and paint a loose again :) Oil over acrylic 18”x12”

here raphs color is red and mikeys is orange. the colors felt too mixed together and tied with their green skins i felt theyd look messy almost? So i used a blue underpaint to add in color contrast

to explain it better... like here rqphs two main colors are green and red, to tie them better together i used yellow underpaint as a middle ground for an analogous palette

Nobody asked but i wanted to talk about it a bit... when coloring im usually think of palettes, specyally formthe underpaint. So that i can make the piece be cohezie with harmony but still have enough hue contrast not to look muddy

Does this make sense ? 🧍

Thank you!!! I use watercolor brush and make an underpainting [all colors in one layer] so it helps harmonize them
