Fondation de la Ville de Québec par Samuel de Champlain, sous l'aile de Pierre Dugua de Mons, lieutenant général en Amérique du roi Henri IV. Situé à proximité d'un ancien village autochtone (Stadaconé), le site n'était plus visité que par des nomades algonquins.
The artist travelled to Italy (1600) & studied the work of Titian, Tintoretto & worked for the Duke of Mantua. Under the Duke’s patronage he studied classical sculpture & the works of Michelangelo. Artist & Isabella (1609-10), Samson & Delilah (1609-10) & Venus (c1608-10)
El Greco died in Toledo in 1614, aged 73. His work, in characterising dynamic & colour over naturalism, is considered the most mannered of his time & was to have great impact on later artists. Opening of the 5th Seal (1608-14), Fray Hortensio (1609) & Laocoön (1610)
