And there it goes. The last total solar eclipse until 4/20/2023 occurred this morning over Antarctica. You can see the elongated shadow swinging around the terminator of nightfall.

Totality lasted up to 1:54 in a path 260 miles wide. Berkner Island to Shepard Island.

Since it's here is one of the earliest known depictions of the Ross Ice Shelf - before it was even called the Ross Ice Shelf! John Edward Davis of HMS Terror drew the "Great Southern Barrier" in 1842, while Ross's expedition was trying to find a way around it.

Cryolophosaurus was the first theropod found in Antarctica and was almost called Elvisaurus because of its pompadour shaped crest. They also have a hard time classifying this fella! It was thought to be related to Dilophosaurus but its now found to be unrelated
