"Leave the leaves"
I love this @xercessociety campaign, quite timely now.
Leaves are not litter, but crucial part of ecosystems. Let's stop unnecessary, and ecologically damaging tidiness. 🍃🍂🍁

It's fitting that this month is Bat Appreciation Month! These unique creatures are important to our ecosystems and can be really cute, too!
What's your favorite type of bat? What would a bat do on the Animal Kingdoms council?

I find pictures like this terrifying, not because of the crushing heat wave in China or record cold in Greenland, but because so little of the planet is average. Climate change drives extremes and extremes destroy ecosystems.
@AncientFroggy @withFND Frogs are like body hair, some people like it, some people disgust it. But the existence of frogs balances the world's ecosystems, and the body hair balance the body system too. So take care of the frog like you care your hair :))

(9) What does this tell us about conservation and our view of ecosystems? Many things, potentially, of which most are ultimately subjective conclusions. Yet one thing is clear - in ecosystems, if nowhere else, function trumps form.
(3) From Miocene Iberia to Pliocene India, almost-if-not-every species of animal that inhabited those ecosystems then are now vanished. And yet, comparing the ecological *communities* as a whole, a remarkable continuity is observed.
(1) Order in Disorder - a thread on ecosystems across time. Conservation is often very focused on the preservation of particular species, focusing often on what are considered "indicator" animals of a given ecosystem, be they pandas, elephants or rare weevils.

Maybe they were once tamed to establish seafaring settlements, the remnants of which can still be found on some individuals. I imagine young ones could only support grass and some patches of trees, but ancient ones have entire ecosystems on their backs.

Our thinking is that in terms of war, they have stone motherships with self-sustaining ecosystems and fleets of wooden AI attack-ships

Rewilding aims to restore ecosystems to a natural state, and often involves the reintroduction of native animals.
Twelve of the elephants were born and raised in Kent and one was born in Israel. None of the animals have ever lived in the wild.
