#SketchbookSunday: Archaeologists are essential to an excavation site for sure. Anthropologists, zoologists, botanists, and architects are needed too.
But it is the many local workmen doing the actual digging, who keep the whole thing running.
Here‘s to them. ✊
@ADS_Update has just launched a comprehensive digital archive of site reports, records, and photos from the excavation of the #PrittlewellPrince, one of the most significant Anglo-Saxon discoveries this country has ever seen. Best of all, it’s free! 👉https://t.co/lSfPAhd8EZ
Another angle on #archaeology31‘s 'story time' of course would be the many little excavation anecdotes we have in our field journals.
Like that time a scorpion and I had a little ... misunderstanding about who was first in the excavation house‘s bathroom that one evening. 😬🤷🏻♂️
The 3D print of a skull with a craniotomy recovered in excavations on Rat Island in Gosport. Look out for fascinating developments and coverage in 2020 having already featured in @CurrentArchaeo and #diggingforbritain. #opnightingale
Another exciting discovery in 2019 is the excavation of a subsidiary tomb of the First Emperor's mausoleum. Besides bronzes & jades, it yields a gold (or gilt?) Bactrian camel, adding evidence to contacts between the First Empire of China & Central Asia through the Silk Road.

RT si un de tes membres est un appareil d'excavation.
I made a character for my campaign. He is a part of the excavation team the players are working with right now. I did my random race generator and got a male Lizard-folk then randomize the lizard and got a common brown basilisk.

Nice use of archives with objects in the displays @VictoriaGallery #BeforeEgypt exhibition curated by @GarstangMuseum team. Excavation photographs, sketches & original labels from @LivAncWorlds annual exhibitions that followed each season (which @amalexathorn may like!)
Zorkons father taught him everything he knew, and the two spent their days mining, occasionally meeting explorers during excavations. Hearing of the world outside the mountain lit a fire in Zorkon who now wanted nothing more than to dig to the surface and explore the land beyond.
Before Peter Rabbit!
Before Beatrix Potter became a famous illustrator for children she studied archaeological finds. Her watercolours include finds from the Bucklersbury excavations,1872. The drawings are impressive in accuracy & beauty.

In order to save the wreck of a 16th century ship, La Mortella, sunk in 1527 off Corsica & to finance its excavations, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched by CEAN, the Centre d’Etudes en Archéologie Nautique...💦 https://t.co/DuOMgNJd9f
