The monster designs and practical effects in this are impressive. Released between the Hollywood Power Rangers and Godzilla, this film holds up far better than either. The christological allusions are a wacky choice.

One of my favourite films of all time: Shin Godzilla is 5 years old today!

I still hold this rendition of the character extremely high in design and imagery, and the film itself is powerful and haunting in a way not many are.
