Here's something I wish I was able to learn sooner; I think many starter anime-style artists begin by colouring shadows like on the left. Try change it up by starting with darker values and painting in direct lighting, and you'll find it becomes much simpler to render!

So for 3 days (from Friday evening) he ran a washer cycle, left em in there then moved it to the dryer when I ran out of patience and told to finish the job
