my fave thing about old art style (esp. the late 90s to pre-2010s) is that they could make the cutest cartoony moe style and then render them realistically during dramatic scenes

By the way, the first planned animal design is Enoko. However, I wanted a big dog to be next to Sanae, so I changed the design to be more realistic.
I think these two aspects of his character tend to clash a little, leading him to come off as if he means well (he does) but in a way his methods can feel a little... toxic?

I like the Manga design of GATE's Alnus hill more as compared to the Anime one
