I love how the structure of the page (this one with the votes strikes me as the reason Kieron wanted the 9-panel grid) doesn't allow anyone to dwell on this moment. The Morrigan just voted for Baph while he's sitting there, and nobody blinks.

Minerva goes right on setting up opportunities to expose cracks. Baph makes a very Baph joke, and Morri's not having it because jokes about promiscuity are in poor taste coming from Cameron.

After the action bit we get into the super tense 9-panel scene where everyone looks very unhappy to be there. Baal begins by saying he hasn't killed enough children and Minerva says it's okay he didn't listen to her more closely.

But... What if *you're* the baddies?
J/k, Hazel's grossly insensitive and dimwitted, but she's not a villain.

Would you believe I just realized Hazel's starlight gear is based on mimicking Inanna's powers?

You know this is a thing Baal practices. Bags and bags of burnt bread were tossed out back when Baal was being a bachelor.

We are very aware at this point how seriously Baal takes the Great Darkness.

Do you think any of the other gods had a pre-ascension moment of inspiration that they kept under wraps too? Could this have been resolved sooner if someone else had just said, "Oh, yeah, I did the lighter trick once before Ananke too."

This is a legitimate question. They lean a lot on the Persephone mystery, but I still don't think Laura breaking the no recording rule has been addressed yet.

Cass does a very admirable job of making it seem like Laura's torture moment was entirely part of the plan. Also, I totally get why she's wary of getting help from Woden. I *do* wonder why she never tried to divine what Woden knows.

Darkness and isolation are clearly the worst thing that can happen to a person in the WicDiv universe: the Woden & Ananke story.

Also, Laura's back, but we're deliberately kept out of her head. She's suddenly as much a mystery as the rest of the characters.

The dominant theme for Laura throughout this whole arc is that she's out of fuck's to give about everything, and most of that is tied up in all the people she's lost.

Good morning! Let's talk about the one where Laura breaks Woden and then a BEM shows up at the end out of nowhere.

There's something haunting in this sequence. It's a call back to Laura flashing on Luci's death in but instead of retching, she goes blank. She has a very different relationship to her trauma by this point.

Just because Laura's in apathy land doesn't mean she can't be manipulated. This seems like a deliberate Barb meant to push Laura more towards carelessness.

I dunno if it's Jamie's style evolving or the redesign or just more deliberate telegraphing, but Mini looks *so* much like Ananke now.
