eventually he became more of a non-verbal character. the aforementioned small version of him was spun off into a duplicate of himself but as a toddler or infant. they both look and act pretty much the same except the tiny one is a lot more "verbose" with his gibberish babble.

It’s something I got used to quickly but it really does bother me that Courage speaks only gibberish Season 2 and beyond when he could speak in full sentences in the first season. You kind of removed what was established with his personality a bit. In other words, Flanderization.
