some classic examples in my chars would be sklav being given other eye colors than a complete black (her pupils are supposed to not be discernable from her irises), azeon is rarely drawn with his actual skintone and is often a lot paler and everyone always forgets that searlait

I see!
It's clear you've put lots of consideration into it. I think it works very well. You usually draw irises with circles, I've noticed. Having an iris shape that's different from an artist's norm helps sell them being inhuman.
I usually draw them as ovals.

Rinpa School, Japan. The Ogata Korin goes further & implies the bridge, poetically recreating w irises folding in & out on the screens. This link translates the original poem and lays out the "Iris" structure. 3/4

Works by the Rinpa School, Japan were purchased by wealthy merchants, eager to prove their cultural knowledge. Here Ogata Korin references a poem from the Tales of Ise based on an 8-plank bridge over irises, a man missing his wife, uses syllables of "iris" to create the poem.2/4

Some notes + closeups
Every flowers was chosen for its meaning!

My dumbass really always getting "S0nic" vibes whenever seeing Jolyne with shue*sha color picks and/or volume 2 cover art. To be fair, Sonic's green irises only appeared in 1998, just about a 1-2 years before Stone Ocean.

And also both protagonists were framed for crimes lmao+

Art Raffle Prize for @/pastelix_

Had tons of fun shading the eyes, considering how unique the irises are!

my boi has black eyes with red irises :0

I like the new Charlie design, largely because now she has colored irises with no pupil which is how I draw eyes by default.
Also, I'm not the only one who chews on their ponytail when stressed, right?

I use the soft brush and round brush interchangeably most of the time. I prefer painting eyes without an outline around them so i make the iris with the soft brush and use both to give the irises a softer look. I use the round brush for a wider variety of things though

Was going through some of my old works and stumbled on my unfinished comic series, Sei's House. Looking at Sei and Alisteia, I guess I really do have a thing for lilac hair and bright irises? - Creator Musings

My personal fav is pupiless eyes (see: Pongo), but I also love irises that are weird - Starchild’s stars, Crowe’s lack of, and Kirsall’s anisocoria ~ https://t.co/WnGqK2j1VZ

Eris' first design to current design! Originally I thought the ancients were gray-skinned & white-haired & didn't have defined ears/nose/mouth/brows, just glowing eyes without irises/pupils, which you can kinda see in the first one, hehe.
