I love Kirito & Asuna obviously, but i’ll be honest seeing her relationships with other characters have been some of my favorite parts of SAO🥹😭💜
Overall:
I'd say this soothes a lot of the claims that many had about the original series/anime.
Kirito isn't edgy cool boy w/ harem.
Asuna isn't a Damsel in distress.
Their relationship is gradual
Game mechanics are well-implementated
World building is Vivid
Plotting is gas
Asuna and Kirito have just sort of developed this super natural relationship of trust and love over many life changing experiences and it's been phenomenal. Sad I might not see them for a while.
As per usual, the growing relationship between Asuna and Kirito as well as their companion Kizmel was very compelling.
I have a hard time seeing how they'll get separated at this point lol given this retcon is making their relationship too strong too early.

As always, the subplot for Laughing Coffin had me on edge. Honestly this was insane. Kirito was near determined to murder someone for the sake of Asuna and almost succeeded. I had no idea it would get that close either but had no clue on whether he'd stop. Edge of my seat.

I appreciate how Kirito still comes off as a dork in the progressive movies as well. He can barely talk outside of battle and really cares only about Asuna more so than the "greater good." They kind of skimp over his crying as Asuna holds him, but you can kind of tell from his
much sense since he was supposed to be holding it out of a moment of weakness thinking he could have that power for his guild

The more of Progressive I read, the more I see how badly Kirito was adapted in the OG anime even worse than Shirou lmao.

And if it wasn't obvious, this was another huge interesting development between the two with an interesting structure.
The first half of the novel tackles Asuna's POV while the second half gives us Kirito's perspective from further on.

The questing and boss battles definitely got fleshed out even more as they fought their hardest boss and battles yet.
It gave Asuna and Kirito a lot of time to grow together.
And at the end of it all I would just to say (again) that Kirito and Asuna had more great development and took large steps forward. It's a slow relationship build but at the same time the growth between them is visible and nearly palpable. Definitely enough to make me smile tbh
We also get our fair share of Kirito and Asuna slice of life which develops a solid slow-build relationship. You see them begin to trust one another and put their lives in each other's hands. Honestly I am much more satisfied with their relationship than ever before.
Overall it was a solid read and didn't really have any of what people would consider to be the "edgy" moments of the original anime adaptations.
Kirito is just a nervous and shy teen that doesn't know how to talk to people lol.
