I'd study anything that was super jerky/stylized and things with heavy shading. Any free time I'd try to cram as much into my head as possible. I look at this old footage and it's like, "Shading is wrong. Background is too blank. Animation drawings are in the wrong place."
It's still Wednesday so i decided to do a quick sketch of @MC27Xbox 's Yoshi character by abusing the heck out of XP #MSPaint's spray tool for the shading.
This was commissioned by @TheUnseenEvil47 , was fun messing around with light and shading.
Pov: you're a human looking up at a Zaptoid.
I wanted to try perspective drawing so it might look a bit wack. Also tried cell shading. I feel like I still need some practice with both of them.

4. Then go add details and define where you want the hard shadows to be. If more lights come to play in the lighting, adjust the light/shadow ratio.
Tip: I like to use the selection tool and gradients to do my shading.
I had doodled Ashton back in 2021 when I doodled Imogen. I had only gone to shading. But I completed it today. Does it count as a 2023 drawing or 2021?

Then I tried @ArtsyLizzy82 style and WOW it was fun! My hand got a workout here. She uses so many colors and plays with loose linework for shading. Her style is so distinct. I hope I did it justice!
All done, plus a shot of him with out the dark shading.
It was nice to not only bring back, but have a new take, on Juneau.
I have a few ideas to try for the next piece.
A version without all the extra shading.
Sometimes I prefer it. https://t.co/Brrb2bVBLf
Art! Jadi sender masih awal2 belajar cara coloring & shading. Apa ada yang punya saran cara melakukannya dengan benar? Sender nggak ngerti cara kerjanya :')
Hey guys. I just found out Subtract layers are a thing and I tried using them for shading. And, uhhhhh...

Lastly, I wanna talk about armor. Armor is definitely the hardest thing to draw consistently. But here’s what you do. Just draw the areas where light is meant to be reflecting, and surround it with heavy shading. Once you do that, use the smudging technique I mentioned.
The most stylized features obviously being the face. You can easily tell an Ayami Kojima piece just by looking at the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and lips. But more importantly the shading. Ayami Kojima often tends to shade things with the light source coming from directly in front.
@Nekrokat BACKGROUNDS. LANDSCAPE!
I'm tired of having my OCs in some portrait void. I want to be able to draw their hometowns. Their rooms, a full scene! But I don't think my background art skills are the same as my character art skills.
Also more linework detail / shading. Not sure how
