I think much of what makes a sketch work at a small size is edge-relationships (shapes!) Much of that is determined by value. Think about three values. Black/ White/ Grey. That is all you need to design a clear image!

So I have been feeling quite down about my art again lately and in an attempt to find what I dislike about my art I went back to my landscape painting I have previously made and also fixed once.
One thing I tend to not do well is seems is using contrast and values...

It's Thursday and I need a little boost to help me to get through this awful week. It took me awhile bfr I think "Nope, I ain't having it anymore" and stopped everything and nap through the day.

I end up have to use the pen since I can't achieve more darker values.

If someone is wondering why the timelapse goes into black and white from time to time-
I was checking values. Basically how "dark" a colour is.
Shown below, the values are still intact, even without the colours behind them.

tip if ur having trouble w/ur character's color palettes, try greyscaling what u have so far and check your values.
it can help you decide how light or dark a color should be to bring more harmony to your palette
