Hero Holding the Beacon for Leander (c. 1885) by Evelyn de Morgan (UK, 1855-1919). Pre-Raphaelite style. Leander fell in love with Hero & swam every night across the water to her. Hero lit a lamp at the top of her tower to guide his way.
