So I believe the issue is something that boils down to colors that please the eye. Most people are drawn to bright, warm colors that compliment with the design. A good example I can think of is Lady TH by Einn. She retains a strong, striking image but still has pleasing colors.

2015 - I had an art crisis because my "realistic" stuff wasn't pleasing people. It takes a long time before "realistic" becomes pretty enough for people to like it and I was feeling it HARD. I had no idea what to do - never thought I'd be good enough. But I kept trying.
