I believe in casual world building in regards to races. The rules I have for myself are only for the sake of my own consistency.

The common types are mammalian anthro, reptilian-ish anthro, feline humanoid, and avian humanoid.

I had to restart my project 5 times before I started getting somewhere decent and even then I still change sprites to improve over time. I'd say to stick with what you have but make drastic changes in some regards or start from scratch with fresh ideas. For example
