This painting metaphorically describes Ometeotl.
Ometeotl can only be pictured metaphorically, They contain within Themselves the totality of existence, and are identical with all being, and do not exist symbolically like the other Teteo (gods) in a human-like form.

Beyond this, the only link to anything in real life that this entity has, is that of the nursery rhyme 'There Was a Crooked Man'.

The film makes some changes to the lines of this poem, but the metaphors are very similar.

“I, too, was waiting for my tongue to tell me everything—to settle my fate.”

James Marcus’s essay “Glossology,” from our Winter issue, uses the author’s mouth-related medical woes to discuss the historical and metaphorical implications of the tongue.

THE PROBLEM WITH METAPHOR

Would Robert the Bruce
Have bumped his head
Half pissed on Woodpecker cider

If on the wall of the cave
He'd watched instead
A daddy longlegs not a spider

The Carol persona (a great metaphor for guilt) is perhaps the hardest/best part. In one scene, Rogue becomes confused when it surfaces, and the man she thinks she loves assaults her and expresses his desire to kill her – a desire she shares. It’s a powerful, heartbreaking scene.
