I think they're left vague now so they don't risk alienating any new players. But they started out explicit, Ocarina of Time is just a fleshed-out retelling of the story from ALttP's manual. It retconned some, but the seven sages sealing Ganon in the Sacred Realm comes from here

Greatly surprised me <3 Started as a DR opponent that seemed very rewarding to take down in trials. Then became one of my fav characters for all the complex layers to him and the emotional rollercoaster that left nothing standing.
