Note that you can also study 2D and 3D animation! This is very similar to a regular film study, but can also incorporate graphical style and is a great exercise for learning how to adapt to a different project. Lighting and composition is often pushed super far in animation too.

However, an even better outcome of this exercise was a transformation in the way I think about and implement color. I tried to diversify my subjects as much as I could, and as a result was able to build on the intuition I have towards light, shade, and visual library.

I started this exercise because it had been MONTHS since I made new art. I'd been completely blocked, so I just decided to paint color studies on a daily basis. Adding livestreams into the mix reinforced the accountability I was trying to build towards regular art creation.

Floating to the game store and back totally counts as exercise, you know! Maybe a few snack stops along the way too!✨

I find it hard to get off the grind but rest is so important. So tonight I went for a nice nature walk along the coast, and enjoyed a nice meal by the beach.
