Most beautiful perpetual #calendar!
A series of the 12 months of a year. Hand-colored copper etchings by different engravers after the paintings by William Hamilton (1751-1801), lovely county scenes!

His images of Napoleon (1801-5) were the ultimate propaganda of the diminutive General on his march to being Emperor of France & conqueror of Europe. Placing Boney on a horse shows his knowledge of Van Dyck & Titian’s royal portraits of short rulers
As Belgium rolls out the first Covid-19 #vaccines, let's remember dr. Louis Vrancken (1773-1853) who performed the first smallpox vaccinations in #Antwerp in 1801 - only three years after Jenner published his discovery. Vrancken donated most of his publications to our library.

"Red Thirst" (1997) reminds me of some of my favorite classical paintings like "Ossian receiving the Ghosts of the French Heroes" (1801) by Girodet and "Light of the World" (1853) by William Holman Hunt. It's such an usual color scheme and so LUMINOUS when it's done right!
