This enamelled #Roman brooch in the form of an #owl was found on the island of #Bornholm in #Denmark. It is thought to have originated in the #Rhine/#Danube frontier region of #Germany, possibly travelling to the #Baltic via trade. #MuseumsUnlocked #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology
There's always smth new to learn about: in 1976 as a counter to Pershing-IA deployment and Pershing-II maturing 6 (six) Golf-class diesel ballistic missile submarines (armed with R-21) were deployed to the Baltic.
...and then SALT-II arrived.

The Battle of Svolder was a naval battle fought between Olaf Tryggvason of Norway and the kings of Denmark and Sweden, along with the earl of Lade. The battle is said to have occurred in the western Baltic Sea (c. 1000). This conflict is mentioned in the Old Norse King's sagas.
Late afternoon & Wolf was showing a tired Pine Marten the shells he had collected on the beach that morning. Spindle shells & sting winkles, netted dog whelks & Baltic tellins & wentletraps like strange spiral staircases made of sea bone. You can have 'em all, said Wolf, gruffly.
Personal #Headcanon about #AphPrussia 🐣:
He has always represented his land and the old prussians. It is suspected that his birth was around 250 AD in what became known as Königsberg, under the cloak of Aestii and some visits of Germania, making him a Baltic country of origin.
Down the Rabbit Hole episodes I hope happen eventually:
-Carl Tanzler and the body of Elena Milagro de Hoyos
-The ill-fated journey of the Russian Empire’s Baltic Fleet during the Russo-Japanese War
-Francis E. Dec, his writings and recordings
Carl Gustav Carus - Memory of a wooded island in the baltic sea (Oak trees by the sea)
I have a lot of good suggestions for my #PrehistoricPlants #SixFanarts, and to kick it off I was asked to do 'a prehistoric #carnivorousplant!' Well, there aren't many know from direct fossil evidence, but there are a few, and one of them is a Baltic Amber Roridulaceae! #paleoart
