i’m using topaz lab’s proprietary software ai gigapixel to do the bulk of the upscaling, which has a super-easy-to-use command-line interface. it was trained on another dataset of pictures at various resolutions. it only sees patterns too

All said, I do think you have to give the pics a bit blur, as otherwise, the scaler doesn't have enough to latch onto. With the blur adding some more colour depth, Gigapixel at least does a bit better job.

Man SinGAN is such a weird model. The arbitrary size produces some really blurry stuff. First image is directly from model. Second is downsampled 4x then uses Gigapixel AI to bring it back. Looks like it went thru a VAE or something.
