I call this an impressionistic story because I’m not going deep into describing characters or circumstances of their lives. We go past mundane details straight into the territory of self-reflection, memory and daydreaming.

Beep beep. It's the birthday of Frederic Bazille (1841-1870) the pioneering Impressionist who died before the movement took off. He came from Montpellier. I remember recreating the works below in my Impressionism series. The light was exactly right. Just like the paintings.

Most Impressionists such as Monet owned copies of Hokusai, and art critic Burty, in 1866, said that Hokusai's work maintained the elegance of Watteau, the fantasy of Goya and the movement of Delacroix.

or let’s compare impressionists. Mary Cassatt depicted women in their daily lives, doing things, being humans. Compared to someone like Renoir who painted women to be pleasant to the men looking at them, even WITHIN the paintings!
THAT is the female gaze vs the male gaze
My latest oil painting of Moored Sailboats done in impressionistic style on a semi sunny day near Beaufort, S.C. Sailing is one of my passions and love of sailing with the calm of the water makes me happy.
Marie Braquemond was born #OTD in 1840. She contributed Woman in White to the 5th #Impressionist Exhibition, the year that Berthe Morisot showed Woman at her Toilette and Mary Cassatt showed On the Balcony. Women artists represented that year!
