So, here's a long ramp-up: The blue virus-type Metalgreymon came first in 1997 and orange vaccine-type Metalgreymon came later for the cartoon in 1999, but then the over-the-top orange X-antibody form came in 2003 and the RIDICULOUS blue X-antibody form is from 2019!

Sidenote; I wasn't too crazy about WarGreymon as a kid - but in retrospect I was let down by my own expectation of what MetalGreymon would evolve into. It's only in recent years that I've come around to appreciate his design, which is really cool in its own right.

21. MetalGreymon was always my favourite in the anime, so naturally he is in the v-pets too. Getting him on the S1 Digivice, then later the Mini, and eventually the OG V1 felt momentous. The first time I got him on the Mini I made sure he wouldn't evolve further 😆

Actually there is MetalGreymon X (virus) and Gaiomon is part of the WarGreymon family, Dark Tyrannomon X is the is the canon Champion/Adult of the line. They've been adding a lot of new X Antibody digimon since last year because of the P-Bandai V-pets.

Another one of this demonstration is the power of darkness making Digimon Dark-Evolve. Like Greymon/Agumon who evolved into the uncontrolled Skull Greymon and then MetalGreymon, who for being "corrupted by darkness" became a Virus-type Digimon.
