Before Generations there wasn't a distinction between Classic and Modern Sonic; they were the same character depicted through two different art styles. In fact... all throughout the development of SA1, 'Classic Sonic' was present.

basically, whenever we get new art of tikal and chaos spending time together i like to imagine that it's what they're up to while they're inside the master emerald after the events of SA1. i imagine it's probably meant to take place in the past, but that's how i like to see it

Before SA1, Sonic was depicted as being pissed or atleast serious almost as much as smiling, weirdly enough.

It leads me to wonder if Sonic was meant to be more serious and "down-to-business" than he was known to be later on.

I'll be busy on the 23rd so I'll get my 30th anniversary Sonic drawing here now. SA1 and 2 are in my favorite games list of all time so i do like the funny blue guy a lot. So, hope you enjoy it!

Jay Axer's Sonic artwork was pretty cool. It's reminds me a lot of the SA1 and 2 Era Uekawa artwork but with a sort of anime look. (Pic 1).

Now what you should be saying "what the fuck am I looking at" to is Ken Penders's Sonic artwork. It's terrible. (Pic 2)

I miss the SA1 through Heroes era renders, the way they’re shaded makes the characters pop out and feel full of texture and personality

SA1 he had the lightspeed shoes, SA2 he had the 2G Hi-Speed Shoes (or just called the SOAP shoes), Sonic Riders he had his own custom shoes, even in fuckin Sonic 06 he had the Gem Shoes!! His normal shoes look like a boring plastic rendition of the original!

SA1 and SA2 are more iconic and more "flexible." And while the current Uekawa artwork looks more stiff, it at least looks more polished.

The weird in between just felt a bit off for me tbh
