In 1818 he visited the Continent & painted much of what would become the Waterloo Series now hanging in Windsor Castle. Madame Isaac Cuthbert (1816-7), First Earl of Blessington (c1816) & Robert Stewart (1817). The Blessingtons grew the first pineapple in Ireland!

Somewhat earlier—1700(+/-). The 'Somerset yard' to the left, leading to the Strand, is now Waterloo Bridge. The large barge moored in the Thames (foreground) was a floating coffee house called 'The Folly'.🙂

The Gaiety Theatre closed in 1939. The building was in need of renovation to bring it up to modern standards. The Theatre also stood in the way of a proposed road scheme to connect with the then new, Waterloo Bridge.

For we think Wellington might have missed his horse Copenhagen had he been here. Copenhagen was the Duke's horse, which he most famously rode at Waterloo, where having been riding for 16+ hours he lashed out with a hoof almost hitting the duke, love runs rough.
