Finished Reading Soukou Akki Muramasa, a phenomenal dark fantasy story by Nitroplus. On top of the grand intrigue and intricate battles, what really sets this VN apart is its incredibly poetic prose, which well lives on in the translation. Absolutely one of my favorites.

They still did use different tactics within battles, (so did the foederati), using an equivalent of Mission-type tactics and independent command iirc.

This versatility allowed them to outmaneuver the Romans the same way Romans defeated the even more lumbering Phalanxes of old.
