A few possibilities: 1880s day dress in deep red and black for a "my 3rd husband died in mysterious circumstances" look, a Regency gown (full disclosure: I don't like the Regency but all historical folks eventually do it, I think) an Italian Renaissance gown a la Lucrezia Borgia
