Always loved how Takahashi pulled a ton of inspo from Dark Horse and Image artists like Mignola and McFarlane in the day.

He's cited Drew Struzan as an influence on his more recent color stuff too and it's pretty apparent.

Fafhrd and Mouser are heterosexual life partners of loose morals with a taste for wine, gambling, and adventure, and Mignola's moody art suits their tales perfectly. Also (since it's epic fantasy) the big guy finds plenty of excuses to walk around without a shirt.

Stare at one Mignola image long enough and the marks are hypnotic. Pinocchio’s sleeve’s broken line, candle flame separate from the wick, the match, the scaffold on the lantern. Beautiful. I like these big composite images a lot
