I only super super recently started using 3D models in my art, but I'll show an example of how I utilized tracing.

Can't remember the exact model I used but I looked for a dog skull 3D scan on Sketchfab, positioned it and drew over it. 🤷‍♀️

[REFINING] After the sketch got approved, I went to refine the loose lines and fix the outfit design because I am terrible at keeping consistency of the design if I dont design it early on. I used magicposer web for simple lighting ref and sketchfab for lightguide on the face
