I for one, am a brown dude from SEA and can only relate 100% to male characters who are brown, tanned and NOT PALE. Like these characters whom I totally can project myself into because they're brown like me.
Unlike Alhaitham & Tighnari who R pale.

There is a color in between white and black, and that is brown.
Nobody is asking for majority of Sumeru characters to be black, but brown or light brown. Even tanned is good enough.

Mia Ikumi only colored him with tanned skin in 1 calendar picture but never within the manga story itself. In the manga, he always had a pale complexion. The reboot has a mix of manga and 2002 anime stuff, probably why Ryou is still tanned even though he wasn't in the manga.

These anime works have diversity and representation. If only either one of Tighnari, Alhaitham or Kusanali from Sumeru could be brown or tanned as these characters then the uproar over Sumeru would be much smaller.

We brown POC from India & SE Asia can't even have one brown rainforest guy.
