known as Veterans Day in the US, honors all military veterans. It had its origin as Armistice Day, marking the official end of the First World War, at 11 am on 11/11/1918.

If we're talking WWI, I'm bringing up Ornitologia da Grande Guerra (Ornithology of the Great War), a set of caricatures where portuguese Lieutenant Colonel José Rodrigues Brusco Júnior compares military men... to birds.

(Aside: I never put together that Snoopy's nemesis the Red Baron, based on the historical ace pilot Red Baron Manfred von Richthofen, would be a pretty clear inspiration for Gundam's Char Aznable and his red customs. WWI affected more of pop culture than I realized.)

Otto Dix’s art reflected the fear, horror & the human cost of WWI. This saw the routine use of chemicals & the increased use of the to fight. His art illustrates “man’s inhumanity to man”. The 3rd Reich glorified such warfare so declared him & his art degenerate

Rags: The Hero Dog of WWI is based on the true story of Private James Donovan and the stray dog he rescued from the streets of Paris. Rags served as a companion and messenger to Donovan on the frontlines, and loyally stayed by his side through battle. 🐶 https://t.co/GUyg6SZBML

"Canakkale 18 Mart 1915." When reading history I always have to look at maps to make sense of what's happening and to make it all more real. Here we see the Gallipoli peninsula on the Dardanelles Strait. A gateway to the Gallipoli WWI battlefields. Source: https://t.co/10whqPu0Mr

Two imperial guards taking a moment to rest.

A lineart warmup I ended up refining a but further.

Got the perspective, poses and mood from a WWI photo (I believe the soldies are cleaning their feet to avoid illneses such as the "trench foot")

'Meddlesome Millie', the Duchess of Sutherland, is one of Sargent's most famous portraits. Outside the ethereal sparkle, she ran an ambulance unit in WWI & also campaigned for worker reform (hence the nickname) that saw the removal of lead paint from use @ Staffordshire potteries

Working on some character design stuff, retooling a character from high school. Marie O'Conner is an Irish orphan in WWI who gets adopted by a rich lady and is suddenly living in a weird house in the woods that seems to have secrets inside and out.

I’ve been enjoying a “mini research mystery” project . Researching a WWI hero pigeon, (Cher Ami), I came across what I considered a mistake- some institutions have “her” listed as “him”. I set off to get the correct gender listed and a fun series of events ensued.
