I couldn't figure out why shading wasn't working. I THOUGHT I had 1 from the pic below. But a second stroke ontop the first produced the white patches as seen in 2. I HAVEN'T CHANGED ANY SETTINGS AND CAN'T FIND THIS ONE.

Tried doing a cel shading thing with a render. Basically rendered a bunch of different types of lighting with and without AO in SFM and blended them altogether in GIMP and made the outlines pop more with the photocopy filter. I'm not in love with it but it was a fun experiment
