William Dargan was born in Carlow in 1799, & is considered a great engineer & ‘Father of Irish Railways’. He built 1st passenger railway line in Ireland from Dublin-Dún Laoghaire, & built 1300 kms of railway line in his career. He also helped set up National Gallery of Ireland.
