Other noteworthy Anime influences are Space Capitan Harlock who massively influenced the pirates & soldners of the game early on, while Alucard from Hellsing was as an "evolution" of D and Vash a welcome inspiration for pushing her visually more in the cool direction.

Zero (2012) and Genji (2016) were both clearly inspired by the Cyborg Ninja from Metal Gear Solid (1998), who I always figured was inspired by Evangelion Unit-00 (1995)
