As for Ace, his original started out as an Atomic Robo OC, but BEFORE that he was initially conceptualized as a Bionicle OC that ended up in the human world. That fell through, but I later toyed around with a robot Picrew where I eventually created his modern design!

I meet the artist at comic-con several years ago and talked about how much I loved his Bionicle art as a kid (he was drawing Star Wars at the time and absolutely crushing the ship/mech illustrations in a similar way to the LEGO Technic parts) which he seemed to get a kick out of
