One of the ways they saved on cartridge space in Rayman Advance was to have some sprites be saved as half the size and then upscaled in-game. It's only used in some places, and makes some sprites look more pixelated than others.

The in-game model of [Battler A], an unit with a more conventional design.
The pixelated texture is a design choice to ease the readability during battles.

Ankha as designed by !

Recently came across a music video featuring this design animated and I loved it and wanted to draw it immediately.

( For some reason the thumbnail quality is garbage so please zoom on in to see that it's really not that pixelated I promise! )

Trouble in the future
Haunts me in the present
Worries become inky pools of fear
Trying to pull me into the deep darkness
With every breath I refuse to drown in my despair
I'll tread in uncertainty, finding pockets of pixelated love

i really tried it. wrong brush size, i.e, too small, which makes the image slightly pixelated. but oh well, it’s a learning curve i suppose.

lessons learned:
- wrong brush. too small.
- muscles need to be more dynamic.

🤔

post is dedicated to the sweet 16th anniversary of the cult classic with this illustration I did back in February 2009 using paying homage to both the said film and / Sorry for the pixelated copy.

We had a family Zoom meeting today because we haven't seen each other in a long time. It's really jarring to have 1080p video and amazing audio when everyone else is pixelated.
