When rentals moved to PS3 and Xbox 360, gaming got harder. You had to install games on the shop’s HDD (because portable HDD is pricey for me), taking 15–30 minutes and shared space. Once you left, your data was deleted. The freedom of PS2 games and memory cards mobility were gone
In Indonesia’s PS2 rental era, gamers brought their own memory cards, jumped between shops, and played pirated discs freely. You didn’t need to own a console. Just "plug, play, and go". It was gaming on the move, cheap and surprisingly personal.
In Indonesia’s PS2 days, most gamers lived on rentals. and pirated discs were everywhere. Not out of choice, but necessity. Originals were rare, expensive, and rentals kept us playing. I was one of those “rental hoppers,” jumping from rentals to rentals.
