@ArtofSpongebob I'm analyzing it a bit and... I feel the one on the right feels off because:
Pupils are near dead center so it looks like he's staring into your soul
Mouth has more detail than the old one, which makes it sorta uncanny
Mouth is larger, making it the main focus of the image.
