I've been replaying Pokémon Emerald recently, so I decided to draw my Sceptile, Martin. He's drawn in both my regular shading style as well as my way of simulating Gen 1's shading.

I recently did exactly this. Try eliminating the lines slowly, making them fainter and fainter until you no longer need them, and instead rely on good shading. Here's my works from 2019 → now (I also switched from watercolor to digital but it's about the same concept)

To give you an idea where my brain lives I googled “creepy clowns in movies” to find someone to draw. Just not into AHS but I really dig this guy. I wanted to use less saturated colors and just tones for shading.

These take me between 50-70 minutes to do, with less time spent if I'm more familiar with drawing the species.
