My reference is usually past drawings where the same characters or similar ones appeared. Like, a palette is created once I have colored an scene in advance, I use the eyedropper tool in Photoshop, to copy previous skin tones, uniforms, I have colored before

Sure. I remember years ago when I colored with color pencils, trying to learn how to make brightness spots with them. With digital tools is way easier. Shadowing, you always have to imagine, where the light comes from. Gives character to a scene

Hey Gaiys! I'm Jess, a visual storyteller currently working on debuting with my first Graphic Novel about tiny plant spirits and mental health! I'm also working on a mini-comic about a Witch who's terrified of Garlic! Why? You'll have to wait to see!

It’s definitely helpful, not only to get the vibe of the character but also as a reference to compare with the other cast!

Absolutely! Saturation especially - colors in life are never fully saturated, and I don't yet have the knack for picking them off-the-cuff, so I use saturation to compensate. Daylight scenes, office scenes, reactor scenes - it really helps place a scene.
