I use the Loomis method to get the shape of the head down whereas for the face, eyes and expressions I use a mirror. I make expressions in the mirror on my desk and then try to replicate what I see to the best of my ability. Here's before and after of when I started using method

Yeah, like Loomis is not bad just trying to get my foot off the ground. But with Hampton though, I don't think I would've been able to actually draw poses, construct, simplify like this without his figure drawing book.
