You can skip a lot of steps by using 3D models to serve as a reference. It's what I do for difficult poses. You can always save the 3D model as an image to cut and resize body parts.

いろいろ素敵な朝鮮戦争フィギュアを出してるH3 Models、小さいジオラマベース付きの製品(鴨緑江の国連軍と白馬高地の韓国軍)も出してるのね。
作例写真を見かけないのだけれども、造形力は高いメーカーなので多分いい感じなんだろう(水筒周りの分割はどうしてるんだろうか。手首？)
