@333Mysteries Vic is the strongest one but also the most subtle, and it comes about as a result of Vic's own life as well. It's not 100% Shiva's influence.
The most obvious case is Dinah during Simone's BoP. That's the clearest example to me.
Overall, I'm beyond glad that we've more or less moved past Shiva as some cackling villainess or mindless minion of bigger groups, but I don't think this new road of angst and tears is the right one to take.
There are better paths, and I hope more writers start exploring them.

As simplistic and underdeveloped as her first origin is, there's something about it I've always found very compelling: Sandra was tricked into becoming Shiva to avenge Carolyn. Her transformation was built on a false pretense.
... Kelley Puckett implied that Shiva's death wish stemmed from regrets over a life of killing all the way back in BATGIRL #25.
My problem is not that there's no precedent for Shiva to be filled with remorse. My problem is that I think it makes her less interesting.
I can see where it probably comes from. The above panels are from a Birds of Prey story, and BATGIRLS #13 full-on shouts out Gail Simone's BoP run, which did a lot to humanize Shiva.

Ever since Bryan Hill's run of Batman and the Outsiders, Lady Shiva in comics has taken some great strides when it comes to moving away from being a pure villain.
However, a lot of writers seem to be replacing evil with angst or cruelty with regret, and I can't say I like it.🧵
Gonna have lunch and then do the first long rant thread of 2023. Though I still don't know whether to go for one particular pet peeve about how Lady Shiva's been written lately or to go wider and look at one major problem that's manifested in a bunch of small ways over years.
How do people make friends on twitter? It seems so stiff to me in comparison to instagram...
