i used to really not like this style, key's early works (well mostly i saw it from kyoani's adaptations even though they're beautifully animated)

but now i like it. the huge eyes almost parallel with the nose and the mouth so high up on the face.. it's interesting. nostalgic

Kakifly's version is more similar to the one Haruhi wore just without the bowtie (so the exact same one in the Mikuru image he drew).
While Kyoani's version has straps, is a two-piece and has the bowtie

When you strip back all of the gorgeous KyoAni visuals there is still plenty to be found in both the story and characters department. Hibike! Euphonium is one of the most interesting shows and surprising success stories.
